For aspiring wealth managers, understanding financial products is only the first step. The real challenge lies in applying that knowledge to real-world investment decisions.
Aditya Bakiwala, a Master of Applied Finance and Wealth Management (MFWM) student at SP Jain Global, recently had the opportunity to do just that by participating in the Franklin Templeton National Mutual Fund Olympiad, a national-level competition that attracted over 10,000 students from 400+ colleges across India.
Early curiosity sparks a career path
Originally from Jaipur, Aditya’s curiosity about investing was shaped early on by exposure to his father’s wealth management business. By 17, he was actively exploring financial markets, following finance news, researching stocks, and learning technical analysis.
The MFWM program at SP Jain appealed to him for its structured approach to wealth management, investment strategies, and financial markets, combined with the opportunity to study in Mumbai, one of India’s financial hubs.

Applying classroom knowledge
During the Mumbai term, students were offered the chance to participate in the Olympiad, which featured AI-proctored online quizzes testing both foundational knowledge and applied financial reasoning.
“The syllabus aligned closely with what we were studying in the Foundation in Wealth Management module, so it felt like the perfect opportunity to test my knowledge,” Aditya says.
Preparing for the Olympiad encouraged Aditya to deepen his understanding of mutual funds, diversification, and risk management.
By clearing Level 1 and qualifying for Level 2, Aditya gained exposure to the top tier of the competition and tested his knowledge among peers nationwide, without the pressure of winning, the focus was on learning and application.
Takeaways for the future
The Olympiad reinforced the importance of a strong conceptual foundation and continuous learning in finance. As he progresses in the MFWM program, Aditya carries forward this mindset of disciplined study and practical application, skills essential for a career in wealth management.
SP Jain Global is proud to see students like Aditya embrace these opportunities, turning classroom concepts into experiences that prepare them for the challenges of real-world investing.
