Admissions Process

STEP 1

ELIGIBILITY

ACADEMIC ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Applicants are required to fulfil one of the following academic eligibility requirements to be eligible for admissions:

  • Have a Masters degree (by Coursework) or an equivalent as determined and approved by the Director – Admissions, in the field of “Business” or related discipline from a recognised university or other approved tertiary institution, and at least 5 years of managerial level professional work experience after completion of their undergraduate degree, or;
  • Have a Masters degree (by Research) in the field of “Business” or related discipline from a recognised university or other approved tertiary institution.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • All applicants must have completed their education as detailed above in English and must provide certified evidence to the School.
  • Applicants who have not completed their most recent education qualifications in English are required to take any of the following recognised formal English language tests and obtain currently valid minimum scores as below:

    • IELTS (Academic version): Minimum score of 6.5 overall, with a minimum of 6.0 in each subtest
    • TOEFL iBT: Minimum total score of 89, with a minimum of 22 in writing and 18 in all other subtests
    • PTE: Minimum score of 60, with no section score less than 50
  • International applicants (including those who have completed their most recent education qualifications in English) who are undertaking study at our Sydney campus may need to meet the English Language test requirements detailed by the Australian government to obtain their student visas. STEP 2

APPLICATION

Submit your application online along with the following supporting documents:

  • CV/Resume
  • University degree transcripts

STEP 3

EVALUATION & INTERVIEW

  • The School establishes a shortlist of potential applicants based on:

    • Past academic performance and other achievements;
    • Past work experience; and
    • English language proficiency to ensure successful participation.
  • All shortlisted applicants will be notified in writing by the School that their application has proceeded to the shortlist for admission.
  • As part of the final stage of applicant evaluation, all shortlisted applicants will be required to take an interview with a selection panel. The interview is designed to assess subject knowledge, verbal and written communication skills, analytical skills and ability, tenacity to undertake substantial research and contribute to the body of knowledge in the field of business and management.

STEP 4

ADMISSION RESULTS

Approximately a week after the evaluation interviews, shortlisted applicants are notified in writing by the Admission’s Office about the admission decision.

Yes, prior formal research experience is not mandatory. The primary eligibility requirements include a relevant Master’s degree and at least five years of managerial work experience.

During the evaluation and interview stage, the focus is on your research potential, analytical ability, and readiness for doctoral study. If you are an experienced professional with strong business insight and a clearly defined problem you wish to explore, you are encouraged to apply.

It’s helpful to have:

Academic transcripts from previous qualifications

An updated CV highlighting your managerial experience

Proof of English language proficiency, if required

No, a formal proposal is not required. However, the panel expects you to have a clear, well-thought-out idea of the research topics or areas you intend to explore. You may also be required to include a brief statement of research as part of your application.

After the interview, the outcome is typically communicated within one week.

While timelines may vary depending on application volumes and interview scheduling, the post-interview decision process is designed to be timely and transparent.

Changes cannot be made directly to a submitted application. However, if there is an important update, such as new professional experience or achievements, you can contact the Admissions team to share this information.

The DBA is a 3–5-year program blending coursework in Year 1 with supervised research in Years 2 and 3. The program is delivered in the following formats:

Online: Study from your location and manage professional/personal commitments at your own pace.

On-Campus (Sydney): Attend in-person sessions at our Sydney campus on a student visa.

Both modes follow the same curriculum and assessments. Coursework is delivered in weekend blocks to accommodate working professionals.
