Why Artificial Intelligence can’t replace human mentorship in education

 
 

Artificial Intelligence is transforming education, but it cannot replace the human role at its core. While AI can efficiently manage grading, answer routine questions, and solve structured problems, it cannot replace the human ability to mentor, challenge, and inspire students.

 This evolving balance between technology and human teaching was highlighted in a recent cover story with Higher Education Plus, where Nitish Jain, Founder and President of the SP Jain Group, shared his perspective on AI’s role in education.

“True teaching goes beyond explanations. It requires guiding students to think on their feet, recognise where their reasoning breaks down, and create value through thoughtful curation and challenge,” he emphasised.

He further highlighted that the future of education lies not in replacing lecturers with technology, but in transforming lecturers into coaches - professionals who cultivate judgment, resilience, and critical thinking in ways no algorithm can replicate.
