Academic Experience

  • Management Duties
    Acted as the Head of the Department of Taxation at the University of Pretoria. Led the department (consisting of 20 staff members) on all functions including human resource planning, supervision and mentorship.

  • Administrative Duties
    Led and participated in various committees within the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences: Research Committee, Community Service Committee, Communication and Liaison Committee and the Ethics Committee.

  • Teaching and Curriculum Development
    • Designed, developed and presented syllabus from undergraduate through postgraduate level.
    • Invited as guest professor to teach on MBA program at the J Mack Robinson College of Business, Georgia State University, Atlanta.
    • Led a consultative and collaborative process covering various topics (including the research component) for the MCom (Taxation) degree, with the aim of empowering students in order to complete their degree successfully.
    • Successfully guided and coached various master's degree candidates through their multi-year journey towards achievement.
    • Acted as external examiner for MCom (Taxation) students' dissertations from the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa.

  • Dealing with Complexity
    • Designed, developed, executed and analysed a highly complex technical benchmark survey on behalf of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants. The report was focused on small and medium-sized audit practices and related to practice profitability and the route cause analysis of specific findings.
    • Nominated as part of a South African Association for Research and Development in Higher Education (SAARDHE)-committee, responsible for writing a report on the proposed funding by the G8 countries for the renewal of African universities.
