SP Jain School of Global Management constantly strives to prepare the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) students for their future and make them corporate ready. A key component of this focuses on image projection and effective communication. To enlighten the BBA September 2021 cohort on this topic, an online guest session was organised on November 24, 2021. Principal Sanyogita Moraji and Assistant Professors Ayesha Mohta and Ajay Kadam from Ramanath Payyade College of Hospitality Management were invited to share their insights with students.

During the session, the thought leaders focused on the importance of image projection. They also shared the best business practices and dining etiquette of the 21st century with students.

Ms Mohta started her session by highlighting the fact that people take four seconds to judge a person and her session was based on what is observed and judged in those four seconds. Students learnt how they can control an individual’s thoughts about them through their image projection. The speaker discussed some important factors that determine image projection, including:

  • Physical appearance and body language
  • Grooming and hygiene
  • Accessories, manners and behaviour
  • Communication skills
  • Knowledge, skills and attitude
  • Values and principles
  • The company you keep and the company you work for

She also mentioned how abstract elements and a positive mindset play an important role in boosting one’s confidence and influencing physical appearance.

Mr Kadam’s session focused on the dining etiquette that one needs to be aware of before entering the corporate world. He spoke about the seating arrangements while dining, how to use cutlery and what a certain position of cutlery conveys during a meal. He concluded his session by highlighting the dos and don’ts of dining in a corporate environment.

After the session, Tanishka Verma, a BBA student said, “I got an informative and insightful outlook on how presenting myself has such high importance in my career and how it can help me define the direction of my profession.” Another BBA student, Yukti Agarwal, added, “The session was very engaging, and the content was very precise, which kept me interested.”

The key takeaway from the session for students was that one needs to be mindful while projecting their image in the corporate world and create a mark with the first impression. Students got the opportunity to understand the business implications of presenting themselves from experienced industry leaders.
