First-year Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) students of the Mumbai cohort visited the Godrej Mangroves on March 26, 2022. The trip was a part of their Sustainability & Corporate Social Responsibility (SCSR) subject. It further helped them understand how companies maintain the much-required balance between business and sustainability.

The biodiversity-rich mangroves, which span over 16 square kilometres, are not only the third-largest green space in Mumbai but also a recipient of the ISO-14001 certification. This visit helped the students delve into the intricacies of nature and appreciate the flora, fauna and its mighty inhabitants.

In addition to this, they were also able to recognise how dependent business and human lives are on nature conservation.Thirty families in the mangrove area are dependent on the livelihood from fishing. The students got an opportunity to interact with the mentors from the Mangrove project, who informed them about how systematically they need to manage the forest area to benefit the parent company and protect these indigenous families.

They also got to understand how Godrej has successfully sent zero waste to landfills and learn more on how they maintain a water positive campus initiative.

This visit thus helped the students discover the cost and effort that goes into cultivating a sustainable strategy.

The students thanked the Godrej team for their active mentorship and the SP Jain, Mumbai team - Professor Srinivas Shikaripurkar and Ms Archana Yadav for successfully organising the event.
